If your small business isn’t taking advantage of the latest technological advancements, you’re really missing out. In case you haven’t noticed, these new applications offer even more functionality than older programs at a much lower cost. Upgrading your business procedures is truly a win-win situation! Here are just a few ways that you can fully leverage today’s technology.

1. Give Up the Fax Machine

Today’s small business doesn’t even need a fax machine. Online services such as Metrofax Internet Faxing are available that can receive any incoming faxes and deliver them to your email inbox. For outgoing faxes, they can take any electronic document and transform it into a faxable format to be printed on anyone’s fax machine. This new trend allows your business to save time and money in addition to adding an environmentally-friendly designation to any promotional materials. It will definitely save a tree or two.

2. E-Sign Your Documents

At one time, even electronic documents had to be printed, signed and scanned back into the system when an official signature was required. This is no longer the case. With businesses like Echosign, a signature can easily be applied to any document. This is another eco-friendly way that your small business can leverage technology to save both time and money.

3. Backup Your Data

Many users, including small businesses, find backups to be too tedious and technical to bother with. Instead of backing up critical data, they take the risk of losing everything in the event of a hardware failure. This is a huge mistake. Instead of taking this risk, use one of two easy methods to keep a copy of everything.
Removable Hard Drives – This inexpensive device can be configured to automatically backup your entire system as soon as it’s attached to your computer. When the backup is complete, remove it. The best practice is to store this piece of equipment in a separate location to protect it from fires, floods, theft and other hazards.

  • Cloud Backups – As long as you have an Internet connection, you can create online backups with any cloud-computing company. You won’t have to worry about arranging for off-site storage or physical connections. Best of all, your data will be password protected for security and can be accessed from any location with an Internet connection.

4. Use the Strengths of Your Smartphone

If you have a smartphone, use it like the processing-powerhouse that it is. These tiny devices can do almost as much as a full-sized computer. From accessing the Internet to checking stock prices, all you need is the right app, and an entirely new world opens up. Here are some of the best apps for business owners:

  • Documents to Go - Create, read and update documents from your phone.
  • Sprite Backup – Backup the data in your phone just in case of a failure.
  • Astrid - Manage your day.

By fully leveraging the strengths of modern technology, your small business will grow in every way. What new program will your small business try first?

SEO is the new buzz word in the internet marketing world. It stands for Search Engine Optimization. This means that by designing your website in a certain way and placing certain words in particular places, you will maximize the traffic flow to your website by optimizing its placement in search engine rankings such as Google.

The following strategies will help you with successful SEO.

Keywords

Keywords are the foundation for successful SEO. Keywords are words that someone would potentially type into a search engine to find what they are searching for. When writing copy for your website, research keywords and choose a small about. Up to ten keywords is generally a good amount. For example if your business offers beauty services then you may want to include keywords such as “tanning” and “hair extensions”. Try not to overdo it with the keywords. This is referred to as keyword stuffing and search engine algorithm pick up on this, thus damaging your websites ranking in the search engine listings.

Links

Hyperlinks are an important strategy in how search engines define which sites are popular and are deserving of a high rank. Links on your page taking site visitors to other pages, as well as other websites linking to your website will help to optimize your search engine rankings. Do some research on the internet and find other businesses with which you could easily link to and which will be relevant to your customers. You may even wish to start up a conversation with someone from these companies and ask if they can return the favor and link back to your site.

All About The Sale

The key to business is being able to sell. If you are able to sell then you can go places in business. If you are not able to sell than your business is doomed. However if you are ready to sell then there are some things that you can do that should help you to do whatever need. The key to business is the ability to know your customers more than you know your product. So, if you are interested in selling and making a sale everytime then you have to learn these few steps that will put you to the next level.

The first thing you need to remember to do is to be patient with the sale. There are plenty of times where you will want to feel like you need to get down to the offer and get out or stay in. However, a good sale can take time. If you rush a person they are often not going to part with their money. However, if you take your time and let them fall in love with you and the product you are selling then you can certainly gain the upper hand in getting the deal that you want.

The first and clear thing you want to do is to get to know the person you are selling. You can’t always have the same selling style and the same approach. However, what you can do is you can figure out a little about the person you are trying to sell to and you can learn a lot about them and what they stand for and what their life was like. This matters a lot more than you think. Don’t be fooled into thinking that you are more than just the sale in your business. In business the sale is everything.

The Need For A Business Manager

As the owner of a small business you have to make difficult decisions every day. One of those decisions is on how you can properly make your money grow, but there should be a bigger and better question that you should be asking yourself: how can I spend my money better? For this the answer isn’t quite as easy as you might think. There are plenty of ways to spend your money and that’s why it’s important to get yourself and accountant or business manager.

Even if you can’t afford to pay them for a full time position you would do best at least trying to do them in a part time capacity. The most glaring reason is that you, as the owner of the business don’t have the time it takes to use your `money in the most efficient way.  Sure it doesn’t seem like a problem but you need to be making your money work for you and making sure that you are balancing your books correctly.

You need this service for the peace of mind that just your vendors are getting paid and that you are ready for the next step in your business which will be expansion. If you can do this you are looking at an exciting time and you will see that a business manager won’t just see the money that sits in front of them, but all of the exciting opportunities that come along with it. It’s true that getting your money right is the key to happiness. That’s never more true in small business.

Limiting Internet Use

If you are a parent you have a tremendous responsibility to keep your child safe from online evils and that is not often easy to do. You have to want to see the best for them. So how do you make sure they are safe and protected from online predators and online scams?

The question is best answered by knowing how to monitor them in the first place. You need to set limits for your kids so that they are only using the internet for the approved reasons. The first thing you can do is make sure your computer is password protected. Kids can’t get on to the computer without the password. This is the best thing you can do to keep them off the computer when you are not home.

When they want to get on the computer you should start by giving them a time limit. It’s when children have free reign to wonder and kill time is when they start to get into trouble. You have to set a limit for them.

If they are interested in signing up for social media sites then it’s a good idea that you sign up for them too. You should be friends with your child so that you have access to what they are doing online. If they are not going to make you a friend then you should consider not letting them have the account in the first place and if you have to restrict them from their internet access altogether.

If you are interested in being a good parent and monitoring your childs behavior than be smart about how they use the internet. Make sure to have an open dialog about it with them so that they know just how much you are concerned about their Internet usage. They may not like but they will have to respect you.

Getting Your Ads Online

Your business is going to rely on your ability to make the most of your marketing. The problem with most companies that market is that there is a finite amount of money and it’s often spent in the wrong places. While people spend tons of money in one area they end up getting themselves in trouble by not getting it done in another area. So here is the low down on where you need to put your money in advertising dollars.

The first thing you need to think about online is the placement of your business in search engine results. The need to be in the top spot is pretty great because being second place is nothing more than a loss in profits. You need to get to the top and that’s not easy to do. Your money should go to SEO copy and a service that not just provides the copy but knows that best keywords that you need to come up to the top in. The good news is that there are a lot of options which will make the pricing competitive.

If you are interested in getting offline and going the normal advertising route than you might want to look into local radio spots. While a commercial on TV might reach more it’s also certainly more expensive.  Getting a radio spot might be a nice way to hit your niche audience and get them interested in visiting you on the web. Don’t make the mistake of taking too much time to mull this all over. It’s a big decision and you have to get the money right if you want to have success.

Money, Marketing and Multiple Choices: Affiliation

The online world is vast. Within it are countless sites and pages, the attempts at success. Creating a virtual business is the desire of many. But achieving that desire requires more than mere products, it demands affiliate programs.

Solidarity was once the only philosophy. Individuals were to discover profits without the aid of others and were to celebrate independence. Times have changed, however, and affiliate programs are now recognized as vital. Their popularity extends from their convenience: with sites able to join forces, combining services and customers for a collective triumph. Similar ideals are offered to the necessary clients and the result is a growth of sales.

And such sales are earned in great amounts with the aid of marketing programs like:

Instant Cash, Instant Ease: Profits are meant to be immediate. This is the belief that shapes Instant Cash Empire. Providing a comprehensive affiliation plan (which is defined to keywords and online marketing), this site allows users to create a steady revenue without demanding endless effort. Through content automation—which searches for relevant posts based upon selected term, the program enables individuals to link themselves with countless others; this provides a wide customer base.

Victory at the Junction: Among the top affiliate programs waits Commission Junction. Founded in 1998, it remains one of the internet’s most prestigious companies, and its reputation has been well earned. Commission Junction seeks to examine each site for its growth potential and chooses marketing aids that will complement it. Its use of EPC examinations brands it the most accurate program available.

Link Share, Link Success: Combining search engine marketing and lead generation, the founders of Link Share offer users easy rewards. Each site is managed, with keywords chosen to reach specific clients and ally-programs carefully linked. Campaigns are created to generate interest and each affiliation is with an already established web page.

Success isn’t meant to be singular. It’s instead to be shared among the many.

Keep Your Software Secure

One of the safest, most secure things that you can do for your computer is ensure that it is properly equipped with Internet security software in the event that you experience a loss of data or critical information from your system. Software like PC Tools is very comprehensive software that allows users to install security software, anywhere from beginner to advanced users. The software application is very easy to understand and follow as the tutorial will take users step by step in loading the software onto their system. Making sure that it is properly loaded is essential so as to avoid any problems or glitches with your computer or the data that’s on it. It would be even more unfortunate to experience further problems with your security issues in case the software was improperly installed, or there was a key step that may have been left out during installation.

Can that really happen?

Absolutely!

For instance, in order to install certain software like security software, you have to disable other programs on your system. Some of these programs work in the background; others are working where you can see them. Since some programs run on automatic, they may not need to be disabled, and if they are, your computer’s firewall can be penetrated, allowing malware or spyware to load onto your hard drive. This may not happen in every situation where a person installs software, but tutorials and guides will give you explanations on what the different applications are, why they need to (or don’t need to) be disabled to load new software, what their functions are and how they all can affect your computer’s safety.

Therefore, it is important to only install software if you know what you’re doing, and if you do not, there are numerous online computer labs to help you. Also, within the PC Tools software, there is a tutorial that will walk you through the entire process.

Scouring the Internet For What you Need

Just about anything you can think of looking for can be found on the Internet.

Even if you can’t locate a specific item, you can certainly locate information about it. That’s a great way to learn, whether you’re trying to further your education to gain employment, or you just want to find a hobby you can really enjoy.

When you’re looking for something online, keep in mind that you might have to search for things in a few different ways before you find what you’re looking for. Use different terms, if the first ones don’t work out. You may not be searching for something exactly as someone else would.

The search engines are going to choose the most popular terms that people use most often. If you’re looking for apartments for rent in Seattle, for example, be clear about that. The type of housing and the city you want (and state if the city name is more common) should both be in your search string. So should whether you want to rent or buy. That will keep you from being forced to look through a lot of pages that aren’t relevant, or needing to start an entirely new search just to find what you want.

Computers and the internet can also (not surprisingly) help you find great deals as well. Places like Offers.com pull in all sorts of deals and discounts for you. Then there’s always good old Ebay.

A lot of people get frustrated and give up when they can’t locate something on the first try, and they might have found what they wanted if they would just look again.

More specific terms and/or different kinds of terms could bring them right to what they were looking for. If you search for something and don’t find it in the first page or two of results, it’s a good idea to search in a different way. Most of the best information shows up in the first few results, although that’s not always the case.

Google Takes One More Step Towards Virtual Domination

Is it just me, or does it seem that Google keeps rushing towards total Internet dominance? I imagine Google as this hulking guy wearing a Tapout shirt to show everyone that he’s the alpha male of Virtual World. One has to wonder how many small companies Google can absorb before it loses track of itself. We all know what happened when Toyota tried to expand too quickly. Hopefully, a Google takeover won’t cause any deaths.

Most recently, rumors have surfaced that Google is in talks with Groupon. Reportedly, Google could pay as much as $6 billion for the acquisition. In case you don’t know, Groupon is a popular “coupon” site that offers deals at local businesses.

In 2010, Google acquired more than 20 smaller companies, many of which were involved in social media, networking and gaming. Let us not forget that Google purchased YouTube in 2009 for $1.65 billion. It’s hard to imagine that Groupon would get more cash than YouTube. We’ll just have to see if the recent rumors contain any facts.

In related Google news, the European Union has started investigating the company for breaking anti-trust laws. This specific complaint doesn’t cite Google’s constant presence on the Web. Instead, rivals of the popular search engine have filed complaints that Google does not rank their pages equally. Google has said that it will cooperate with EU authorities to investigate the matter, which probably means that either Google is not guilty or that the company doesn’t think anyone working for the EU courts can figure out their ranking system.

Regardless, Google shares fell shortly after the announcement.

There has been lots of talk in the U.S. suggesting that Google has broken antitrust laws, but, so far, nothing has really come of it. If the company keeps absorbing every successful startup up in the world, though, it’s likely to happen someday.
